PFT: Progress in talks between NFL, refs?

Kansas City Chiefs v Green Bay PackersGetty Images

The NFL Referees Association has issued a two-line release that, while not saying much, implies plenty.

?Reports on the economic gap between the NFL and NFLRA are inaccurate,? NFLRA counsel Michael Arnold states.? ?Ongoing negotiations with the NFL will be conducted in a confidential and professional manner.?

The first line is curious.? For all the things the league and the officials? union disagree on, the gap in proposed pay didn?t appear to be one of them.? Instead, the problem with the salary divide came from perspective.

The officials had characterized it as $100,000 per team per year.? The NFL had called it $22.7 million over a seven-year deal.? In the end, it?s the same amount.

The real clue comes in the second line.? ?Ongoing negotiations? means that there are negotiations; 24 hours ago, there weren?t.? And the commitment to proceeding in a ?confidential and professional manner? suggests that the two sides have agreed that, as they try to find middle ground for an agreement, there?s no reason to rattle swords.

Now, get it done.? Please.

Hawking, Higgs and Newton add Paralympic dazzle

Newton?s apple, the elusive Higgs particle discovered just weeks ago and the world?s best-known paraplegic, physicist Stephen Hawking, lit up last night?s dazzling opening ceremony for the London Paralympic Games.

Through its theme of ?enlightenment?, the ceremony drew parallels between the inspirational efforts of para-athletes to extend the boundaries of human endeavour and the endless scientific quest to extend the frontiers of human knowledge.

Hawking burst onto the stage at 8.30?pm in a blaze of colour after a celestial sphere descended into the arena then exploded in a representation of the big bang. Around 600 umbrella-wielding dancers fanned from the epicentre to represent the expansion of the early universe.

?Ever since the dawn of civilisation, people have craved for an understanding of the underlying order of the world, and why it exists at all,? said Hawking, opening the proceedings. ?Look up at the stars and not down at your feet and wonder about what makes the universe exist,? he continued. ?Be curious.?

Another central theme of the proceedings was the battle for all humans to be treated equally, whatever their individual and physical differences. This was symbolised by the arrival in the Olympic arena of a giant ?Rolodex? representing the UN?s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. ?The Paralympic Games is about transforming our perception of the world,? Hawking continued. ?We are all different - there is no such thing as a standard or run-of-the-mill human being - but we all share the same human spirit.?

Later on the ceremony paid homage to Isaac Newton?s theory of gravity. Dancers recreated the garden where he was reportedly inspired after being struck on the head by a falling apple, before a huge apple appeared in the arena. Dancers also recreated a human ?Newton?s cradle".

The celebration of Newton continued as choirs sang Principia, a new composition written for the ceremonies by Errollyn Wallen. The work was an homage to Newton?s Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, his 1687 exposition of the laws of gravity.

Bringing things up to the present, the recently discovered Higgs boson also made an appearance, represented by dancers forming a pulsating phalanx of silver umbrellas. CERN got its moment in the spotlight too: towards the end of the ceremony, dancers colliding with each other at random recreated the Large Hadron Collider, where the particle was discovered just weeks ago.

?The Large Hadron Collider is the largest, most complex machine in the world, possibly in the universe,? said Hawking. ?The recent discovery of what looks like the Higgs boson will change our perception of the world, and opens the possibility of a theory of everything.?

Hawking?s theme of enlightenment was echoed by his co-master of ceremonies, actor Ian McKellen, who portrayed Shakespeare?s mystical hero Prospero from The Tempest. Prospero invited his daughter Miranda, played by disabled actress Nicola Miles-Wildin, to ?discover new worlds?, and ?shine your light on the beautiful diversity of humanity?. Echoing Hawking?s earlier injunction to ?be curious? and combat prejudice, the performance ended with Miranda urged by Prospero to ?look up and fly. Break that glass ceiling.?

U.S. soldier accused of leading militia plot was suspect in wife's death

(Reuters) - The U.S. Army private accused of being the ringleader of an anti-government militia in Georgia was a suspect in the death of his wife months before prosecutors say he and three fellow soldiers murdered two people to keep their clandestine group secret, authorities said.

Isaac Aguigui funded the anarchist militia FEAR, or Forever Enduring Always Ready, with up to $500,000 in life insurance benefits he collected after his wife's death in July 2011, prosecutors said.

Aguigui and three other soldiers stationed at Fort Stewart in southeastern Georgia near Savannah have since been charged with murder and other offenses stemming from the December 5, 2011, shooting deaths of a former soldier and his teenage girlfriend.

Aguigui, 19, and two others were scheduled to appear in court in Long County, Georgia, for a hearing on Thursday. A third co-defendant reached a plea deal with prosecutors on Monday.

The accused militia members had plotted to assassinate President Barack Obama and to attack their Army base and a dam in Aguigui's home state of Washington, Assistant County District Attorney Isabel Pauley said during those proceedings.

They also discussed poisoning the apple crop in Washington state and had purchased $87,000 worth of weapons to carry out their planned attacks, she said.

Prosecutors said the group crossed the line from conspiracy to actual violence when they killed Michael Roark, 19, and Tiffany York, 17, whose bodies were found in a wooded area near the base, in a bid to keep them from exposing the militia.

One of the four accused killers, Private First-Class Michael Burnett, pleaded guilty on Monday to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and agreed to testify against his three co-defendants.

As part of the plea deal, he would be spared the death penalty so long as he cooperates.

WIFE'S SUSPICIOUS DEATH

Months before the two slayings in December, military authorities were investigating Aguigui's role in the death of his wife, also a soldier at Fort Stewart, according to Sergeant John Kruse of the police department in Wenatchee, near Aguigui's northwest Washington hometown of Cashmere.

Kruse told Reuters on Wednesday he inquired about Aguigui with the Army Criminal Investigation Command when a member of Aguigui's family approached the police sergeant with concerns she had about her relative. At the time, Kruse said, Aguigui was on leave from the Army and visiting his old neighborhood.

In addition to confirming the relative's claims that Aguigui was under investigation in connection with the suspicious death of his wife, Kruse said he also confirmed with a local gun merchant that Aguigui had recently purchased 15 firearms, several of them semiautomatic rifles.

Kruse said he informed the FBI about his findings and that Aguigui was interviewed by FBI agents before he returned to Fort Stewart.

Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey said the agency has an ongoing investigation against Aguigui but declined to comment further. The FBI declined comment.

Pauley, the Long County prosecutor, also has said the death of Aguigui's wife, Deirdre Wetzker Aguigui, was regarded as suspicious. None of the authorities Reuters contacted revealed any of the circumstances known about her death.

She was 24 years old and five months pregnant when she died in July 2011, said her father, Alma Wetzker, reached by telephone at his home in Minnesota. He declined to speculate about his daughter's death while it was under investigation.

He said the couple met at the U.S. Military Preparatory Academy in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

"Isaac is a natural leader and he has tremendous capacity to do whatever he wants to accomplish," Wetzker said, adding that his daughter "never would have gone along with what they're accusing Isaac of."

His late daughter was an Arab-language linguist for the Army who had served in Iraq and was promoted to the rank of sergeant shortly before her death, he said.

HTC Proto goes under spycam, reveals secret identity: the Desire X

HTC Desire X

It seems the newest member of HTC's mid-range smartphone line-up -- previously known as the Proto -- is actually the Desire X, according to several Scandinavian retailers (see coverage). Also, Hong Kong blog ePrice, who gave the new model the blurrycam treatment, claims that the specs line up with all the rumors: a 4-inch, 800 x 480 display, Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0, Beats Audio, dual-core 1GHz processor and 5-megapixel camera. HTC should formally out the phone this week at IFA, but its European presence and similarity to the China-only New Desire V means it's likely an international version -- without the continental sticker shock.

Dark Knight is secretly Cookie Monster?

If you thought Batman sounded a little gruff in Christopher Nolan?s ?Dark Knight? film series, you're not alone. There's now an explanation for the muffled speech?-- Batman is also the Cookie Monster.

sesamestreet.org, Warner Bros.

Is the Dark Knight really Cookie Monster?

In a viral video posted Aug. 21 on YouTube, a user has recreated a scene from the series where Batman meets with Commissioner Gordon on a secluded rooftop. They're supposedly discussing crime in Gotham City, but a sweeter, more crumbly?topic naturally comes up.

?Cookies. Do you have cookies??? the Dark Knight demands of Gordon, though the officer appears to have no interest in the subject and blathers onward about his cause.

?You really started something,? Gordon replies.

?Cookie, me Cookie Monster,? says Batman.

Gordon then begins a rant addressing concerns over the crime rate, escalation of terror, and appreciation for Batman?s presence in the city?s call-to-action. Yet, like most people with a raging appetite, the winged superhero has a one-track mind, and proceeds to demand his delicious treats.

?Cookie Monster still hungry,? Batman explains.

The conversation hits a standstill, and Batman decides to carry on his way. After the Commissioner offers a word of gratitude, Batman reiterates his "Sesame" Street ties, and takes a plunge into Gotham City, likely in search of confectionary goods.

Though it was the evil villain Bane who reaped most criticism for his muffled voice in the latest edition of the trilogy, ?The Dark Knight Rises,? Christian Bale?s?growly diction has also been the subject of great debate as the film series played out.

At Chicago?s pop culture conference C2E2 in 2008, the topic was discussed at length by Kevin Conroy, voice of Batman in the 1990s Fox animation series, who flat-out dissed the star?s performance.

?Christian Bale is an excellent actor, he just got steered wrong,? Conroy commented. ?Obviously someone should have stopped him and said, ?You sound ridiculous.??

Conroy?s remarks were met with applause, though as one reader later noted online, such character direction was inspired by the original comics.

?The growling voice is not an original idea: it is referenced in the comics,? Brad?wrote on ScreenRant.com. ?In ?Knightfall?, Robin makes a reference to Batman?s ?gravelly? voice while talking to Nightwing. Yes, the purpose is two-fold: cover his identity, and to be intimidating. I grew up watching Batman on television, and wondered why no one recognized the voice of well-known Bruce Wayne.?

Verizon Turbine 7.0 in the works, likely to be ZTE V66 tablet

Verizon Turbine 70 appears to be in the works, likely to be ZTE V66 tablet

What you see above isn't a whole lot to go off of in terms of details, but it's still a bit significant for tablet fans regardless. The image, which displays a page hiding deep within Verizon's internal system, offers the first confirmation of the ZTE V66 tablet's destiny: it shall ride onto Big Red's LTE network as the Verizon Turbine 7.0. We guess the latter name is the catchier of the two. Few other details are known at this point -- hence, the incredibly bare product page -- but the tablet was originally rumored to sport a 7-inch (1,280 x 800) display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery. We'd venture to guess that an OS jump to ICS or Jelly Bean should be in the works as well, unless Verizon wants its brand new slate to be dead in the water before it even launches.

[Thanks, Anonymous]

Brisbane Psychologist - How To Cope With Grief Resulting From ...

Mourning can take a long time ranging from a few weeks to several years. However the experience of losing a loved one remains with a person their whole lives. There are a number of ways of dealing with grief according to Brisbane psychologist.

i. Give your self enough time to come to terms with the loss. Do not rush your grief but spend time with others who you trust and talk about what you feel.

ii. Accept the show condolence from others regardless of how awkward they might be. It will help to strengthen the bond with others experiencing the same loss.

iii. Rest and give yourself treats that help you relax. Take hot baths, get involved in a communal project, cycle, take hikes, have afternoon naps, have your favorite meal and so on. This will help you not only help you to deal with the exhaustion but it also distracts you from the grief.

iv. ? Set short-term goals for things you will do within a period a week or two. These goals will help you to get a sense of continuity. The key to overcoming debilitating grief is to live a day at a time. As time progresses you can then begin to set longer term goals.

v. Seek assistance in handling your responsibilities in the trying period of grief. For instance have a relative come live with you if you have kids. You can also move in with relatives for a time.

vi.

? If you find yourself going back to emotions of intense sadness, don?t be hard on yourself. Grief does not pass completely. Expect this to happen. The frequency and intensity will decrease with time thus the goal is to remain positive.

vii. ? Seek the counsel of people who have gone through the experience of losing a loved one. You are bound to find out that such people will give you a lot of hope no matter how bleak the future might seem.

viii. Avoid all forms of drug and alcohol abuse. These substances can prevent you from coming to terms with the death and resolving your grief. The outcome is dependence on the substances whenever you recall the loss. The avoidance also includes prescription medication that will alter your mood. The best way to deal with grief is to experience it fully.

ix. When making plans for the future give yourself some leeway to change your mind. During the grieving stage it is normal to be uncertain of yourself. Your priorities are bound to change as you adjust to the situation.

The above steps are just some of the simple techniques of dealing with grief. In order to get a more detailed approach you should consider visiting a Brisbane psychologist. This is if you happen to be lining in Waterford, Edens Landing, Loganholme, Slacks Creek or Matterhorn. Grief is an emotion that is quite normal but should not be left to escalate.

HP, Dell: PC makers in desperate need of a reboot

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Hewlett-Packard Co. used to be known as a place where innovative thinkers flocked to work on great ideas that opened new frontiers in technology. These days, HP is looking behind the times.

Coming off a five-year stretch of miscalculations, HP is in such desperate need of a reboot that many investors have written off its chances of a comeback.

Consider this: Since Apple Inc. shifted the direction of computing with the release of the iPhone in June 2007, HP's market value has plunged by 60 percent to $35 billion. During that time, HP has spent more than $40 billion on dozens of acquisitions that have largely turned out to be duds so far.

"Just think of all the value that they have destroyed," ISI analyst Brian Marshall said. "It has been a case of just horrible management."

Marshall traces the bungling to the reign of Carly Fiorina, who pushed through an acquisition of Compaq Computer a decade ago despite staunch resistance from many shareholders, including the heirs of HP's co-founders. After HP ousted Fiorina in 2005, other questionable deals and investments were made by two subsequent CEOS, Mark Hurd and Leo Apotheker.

HP hired Meg Whitman 11 months ago in the latest effort to salvage what remains of one of the most hallowed names in Silicon Valley 73 years after its start in a Palo Alto, Calif., garage.

The latest reminder of HP's ineptitude came last week when the company reported an $8.9 billion quarterly loss, the largest in the company's history. Most of the loss stemmed from an accounting charge taken to acknowledge that HP paid far too much when it bought technology consultant Electronic Data Systems for $13 billion in 2008.

HP might have been unchallenged for the ignominious title as technology's most troubled company if not for one its biggest rivals, Dell Inc.

Like HP, Dell missed the trends that have turned selling PCs into one of technology's least profitable and slowest growing niches. As a result, Dell's market value has also plummeted by 60 percent, to about $20 billion, since the iPhone's release.

That means the combined market value of HP and Dell ? the two largest PC makers in the U.S. ? is less than the $63 billion in revenue Apple got from iPhones and various accessories during just the past nine months.

The handheld, touch-based computing revolution unleashed by the iPhone and Apple's 2010 introduction of the iPad isn't the only challenge facing HP and Dell.

They are also scrambling to catch up in two other rapidly growing fields ? "cloud computing" and "Big Data."

Cloud computing refers to the practice of distributing software applications over high-speed Internet connections from remote data centers so that customers can used them on any device with online access. Big Data is a broad term for hardware storage and other services that help navigate the sea of information flowing in from the increasing amount of work, play, shopping and social interaction happening online.

Both HP and Dell want a piece of the action because cloud computing and Big Data boast higher margins and growth opportunities than the PC business.

It's not an impossible transition, as demonstrated by the once-slumping but now-thriving IBM Corp., a technology icon even older than HP. But IBM began its makeover during the 1990s under Louis Gerstner and went through its share of turmoil before selling its PC business to Lenovo Group in 2005. HP and Dell are now trying to emulate IBM, but they may be making their moves too late as they try to compete with IBM and Oracle Corp., as well as a crop of younger companies that focus exclusively on cloud computing or Big Data.

A revival at HP will take time, something that HP CEO Meg Whitman has repeatedly stressed during her first 11 months on the job.

"Make no mistake about it: We are still in the early stages of a turnaround," Whitman told analysts during a conference call last week.

The problems Whitman is trying to fix were inherited from Apotheker and Hurd.

HP hired Apotheker after he was dumped by his previous employer. He lasted less than a year as HP's CEO ? just long enough to engineer an $11 billion acquisition of business software maker Autonomy, another poorly performing deal that is threatening to lump HP with another huge charge.

Before Apotheker, Hurd won praise for cutting costs during his five-year reign at HP, but Marshall believes HP was too slow to respond to the mobile computing, cloud computing and Big Data craze that began to unfold under Hurd's watch. HP also started its costly shopping spree while Hurd was CEO.

How much further will HP and Dell fall before they hit bottom?

HP's revenue has declined in each of the past four quarters, compared with the same period a year earlier, and analysts expect the trend to extend into next year. The most pessimistic scenarios envision HP's annual revenue falling from about $120 billion this year to $90 billion toward the end of this decade.

The latest projections for PC sales also paint a grim

picture. The research firm IDC now predicts PC shipments this year will increase by less than 1 percent, down from its earlier forecast of 5 percent.

Whitman is determined to offset the crumbling revenue by trimming expenses. She already is trying to lower annual costs by $3.5 billion during the next two years, mostly by eliminating 27,000 jobs, or 8 percent of HP's work force.

Marshall expects Whitman's austerity campaign to enable HP to maintain its annual earnings at about $4 per share, excluding accounting charges, for the foreseeable future.

If HP can do that, Marshall believes the stock will turn out to be a bargain investment at last week's closing price of $17.58, even though he isn't expecting the business to grow during the next few years.

One of the main reasons that Marshall still likes HP's stock at these levels is because of the company's quarterly dividend of 13.2 cents per share. That translates into a dividend yield of about 3 percent, an attractive return during these times of puny interest rates.

Dell's stock looks less attractive, partly because its earnings appear to still be dropping. The company, which is based in Round Rock, Texas, signaled its weakness last week, when it lowered its earnings projection for the current fiscal year by 20 percent.

Dell executives also indicated that the company is unlikely to get a sales lift from the Oct. 26 release of Microsoft Corp.'s much-anticipated makeover of its Windows operating system. That's because Dell focuses on selling PCs to companies, which typically take a long time before they decide to switch from one version of Windows to the next generation.

As PC sales languish, both HP and Dell are likely to spend more on cloud computing, data storage and technology consulting.

Although those look like prudent bets now, HP and Dell probably should be spending more money trying to develop products and services that turn into "the next new thing" in three or four years, said Erik Gordon, a University of Michigan law and business professor who has been tracking the troubles of both companies.

"It's like they are both standing on the dock watching boats that have already sailed," Gordon said. "They are going to have to swim very fast just to have chance to climb back on one of the boats."

GOP convention protesters: storms won't stop them

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? The few hundred protesters gathered under wet skies in a park about a half-mile from the GOP convention on Sunday said an impending hurricane that is supposed to dump even heavier rains on Tampa won't stop them from trying to get out their message that America's middle class is in trouble and needs to be restored.

Giant blocks of ice spelling out the words "middle class" were melting on a warm, sticky, rainy day. Occupy protesters it represents the melting away of the middle class.

That message rings true for 52-year-old Tom Gaurapp and Cheryl Landecker from Freeport, Ill. Both worked for Sensata Technologies, owned by Bain Capital, in the city of some 25,000 people. They say 170 jobs there, including their own, were outsourced to China. Occupy protesters are often made up of younger people who generally believe the financial system is stacked against the majority. But in Tampa, many older people joined the marchers.

They included Gaurapp and Landecker, who said that just a few years ago, they never would have considered joining such a protest.

"But then again, we wouldn't have dreamed our jobs would have gone to China," Gaurapp said.

For months, protesters were gearing up for scores of people to converge on Tampa the day before the convention began to showcase their laundry list of beefs and key messages. The groups included organized labor and Occupy Wall Street.

Neither protesters nor the GOP, however, could foresee Tropical Storm Isaac, which is expected to become a dangerous Category 2 hurricane by the time it makes land over the northern Gulf Coast sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Tampa is expected to feel the brunt of the storm with winds, rain and maybe some flooding on Monday. The forecast caused Republicans to postpone their convention activities on Monday's opening day and not that many delegates seemed to be around Sunday to see the protesters.

The protests stayed small by mid-afternoon. And not all had the same message.

Some came to oppose just Mitt Romney, who officially will become the Republican nominee for president on Thursday. Others didn't seem to care for Romney nor President Barack Obama. And though jobs and wealth were strong messages, others had different agendas.

About 30 people, many with dogs, held a rally against Romney, who infamously strapped his dog in a crate to the top of his car on a family vacation years ago.

"If somebody is going to treat their animal inhumanely, how are they going to treat our country?" said Kim Swygert, 37, a law student from Tampa, who came with her Great Dane.

"He strapped his dog to the top of the car because he crapped, excuse my French," she said.

Several carried anti-Romney signs including one that read, "Don't roof rack me, bro."

The weather didn't deter 52 year-old Donald Butner. He says he's been sleeping at the Occupy camp in Tampa for a few months and that "we're here, baby, rain or shine. The weather is going to do what it is going to do."

Many protesters chanted "we are the 99 percent" and carried homemade signs. The 99 percent refers to the group's message that most don't share in the wealth of America.

The 54-year-old Landecker spoke to the group as rain started falling.

"These businesses have put corporate greed over everything else. If they can do it to us, they can do it to anybody," Landecker said.

Though protesters vow to stay put, if the weather threatens their safety or that of visitors on the streets, police officers will use public address systems and go person-to-person to warn them to leave, said Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor.

"As it is right now, there will be high winds and there will be rain but it's not going to be something that is going to prohibit anyone from doing what they want to do out on the streets," Castor said. "If it changes ... and it becomes an issue of public safety, we will order people into shelters."

About 50 people, from Occupy Wall Street and Code Pink groups, marched from the park about two blocks to the Tampa theater where the Faith and Freedom Coalition was holding an event. The protesters waved signs in front of people waiting to get into the theater, and seven of them lay down in front of the entrance. Other protesters covered them in a red cloth.

They were on the ground for about five minutes. When police asked them to move, they did, and then marched back to the park.

Code Pink is a women-focused group pushing to end the U.S.-led wars abroad. They held signs including, "Vagina. If you can't say it, don't legislate it," and "GOP, respect women."

"I'm completely opposed to the Ralph Reed agenda of the war on women," said Rae Abileah, 29, of San Francisco. Reed started the Faith and Freedom Coalition, which among other causes is against abortion.

Internet Marketing Ideas To Grow Your Website Now

If you?re interested in internet marketing then you may be a bit confused as to where to start, but you have to keep in mind that you can start whenever you want. The thing is, you want to make sure you?re taking the right steps and to do that, you?re going to want to learn as much as you can about internet marketing. This article is a good place to start.

To promote yourself or your business online, you need a presence on social media sites. Make a Facebook page or create a Twitter account. It is best if you can do both in conjunction with each other. These venues will allow you to communicate with your target audience on a daily basis to offer incentives and to get feedback.

Find ways to improve your marketing strategies by using software that analyzes the statistics of your website. Choose an analytics program that tracks details such as how customers navigate your website, how many new and return customers are visiting your pages, and which product categories are most often viewed. Programs such as Yahoo! Web Analytics can even provide you with real-time data so you can quickly gauge the effectiveness of sales, promotions and new products.

Solar PV Panels ? Photovoltaic Panels is another wonderful article

Be as detailed as possible when marketing a product. Studies show that large percentages of the population need profuse explanations about the benefits of the products they are thinking of buying in order to be persuaded. If customers genuinely believe the marketing, they will be much more willing to buy the product. Researchers have found that many people will trust a website with several paragraphs of information about a product over a website that is very succinct.

When discussing a product or service, be sure to state its advantages and disadvantages. Readers are more likely to trust an objective review that touches on the highlights and low points rather than a biased review that only praises a product or service. Also, do not understate a product or services abilities, but do not oversell them and promise things that can?t be delivered.

A great incentive to increase your internet marketing and internet exposure is to give away an electronic freebie with your advertisement in it or on it. You should allow anyone to who gets it to give it away and share it freely. This will attract others to your website and increase your exposure.

When you are becoming interested in internet marketing you have to move away from the idea that it is a get rich quick type of deal. While there are always stories of the people who were successful in this way, for the most part it is a lot of hard work to make a small to medium return.

Offer deep discounts to users that make large purchases or purchase multiple items. If users know that they can get one item for $5 after paying for three at the regular price they may actually end up spending a little more money on your site than they originally planned to.

If you want to improve your internet marketing strategy, recognize that your website has areas that need improvement. No matter how well the page has been put together, there will always be things that can be changed. By constantly updating and improving, you are making your business look more attractive to others.

If you are the owner of the company, create a 30 second video on your site describing the mission statement or services offered. If a customer is able to associate a face with a name, this can increase the personal connection with your brand. Creating a personal video can help increase profits and your overall bottom line.

The Internet is the newest tool in advancing business online. Using different Internet marketing strategies can turn themselves into a wealthy business in a very short amount of time. Having read this article you now should know a couple of tips yourself for Internet marketing. So what are you waiting for, get marketing!

ITC decides Apple didn't violate Motorola WiFi patent after all, tosses case back to judge

Droid RAZR and iPhone 4S

Trouble looked to be brewing for Apple last April: an International Trade Commission judge made an initial ruling that Apple infringed on a standards-essential Motorola WiFi patent, raising the possibility of a trade ban if the verdict held true. The fellows in Cupertino may have caught a big break. A Commission review of the decision on Friday determined that Apple didn't violate the patent, and it upheld positions that exonerated the iPhone maker regarding two others. Apple isn't entirely off the hook, however. The ITC is remanding the case to the judge to review his stance that Apple hadn't violated a non-standards-based patent, which still leaves Apple facing the prospect of a ban. However, having to revisit the case nearly resets the clock -- we now have to wait for another ruling and a matching review, and that likely puts any final decision well into 2013. Google-owned Motorola isn't lacking more weapons in its arsenal, but any stalled proceedings take away bargaining chips in what's become a high-stakes game.

Okaloosa county commissioners oppose military sustainability

A Wednesday public input meeting on proposed military sustainability restrictions attracted an estimated 125 residents, but lasted less than an hour due to no input being needed.

That?s because on Tuesday, Okaloosa County commissioners voted against the measure.

"It happened last night," County Commissioner Wayne Harris said. "The current planning and zoning code will stay the same ... basically, the plans have been shelved, they're gone."

Harris is one of five commissioners who voted to not to proceed with the Tri-County Small Area Study. The study initially was taken on behalf of Eglin Air Force Base and Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton counties.

At issue were land and zone codes that would have entailed property re-zoning, building height restrictions and regulating the use of lighting at night that could affect Eglin pilot training.?

Each county had the final say on whether these restrictions would be implemented.

Holt resident Jim Conner, a retired Air Force serviceman, said he is pleased that no further regulations will be explored.

"I think the county commissioners heard the people," Conner said. "I'm happy with the way things are in our county."

Rod Lewis, director of the University of West Florida Haas Center, who has worked with the project for five years, expressed concern for Okaloosa County?s economic status, following Tuesday night's decision.

"I think a lot of jobs are closely connected to Eglin," he said. "It is the epicenter of the high wage, high tech jobs in Northwest Florida. We certainly want to keep those critical missions in Okaloosa County."

Lewis said his job was to find a way to make the area more compatible with the military environment. He contended that other communities might make provisions that could entice Eglin officials.

Angela Malloy, of Holt, heard the commissioners? decision Tuesday, but decided to attend the public input meeting anyway.

Malloy asked Harris to elaborate on what he meant by saying plans were "shelved."

Harris said military sustainability restrictions would not materialize while he is in office.

Asked if she accepted that answer, Malloy said, "As long as that is honest, I will be satisfied."
