As 1 of 9 new distinguished lecturers, Alexander Wyglinski, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at WPI, will deliver talks on software defined radio and cognitive radio to VTS chapters around the world
Worcester, Mass. Alexander Wyglinski, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), has been appointed to a two-year term as a distinguished lecturer by the Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). As one of nine new distinguished lecturers selected by the society this year, Wyglinski will deliver talks on software defined radio and cognitive radio to VTS chapters around the world.
The 5,500 engineers, scientists, students, and technicians worldwide who belong to VTS are interested in advancing the theory and practice of electrical engineering as it applies to land transportation, railroads and mass transit, mobile communications, vehicular electrotechnology equipment and systems, and land, airborne, and maritime mobile services.
Wyglinski, founder and director of the Wireless Innovation Laboratory at WPI (wireless.wpi.edu), conducts research on cognitive radio, dynamic spectrum access, spectrum measurements, and software-defined radio, among other areas within wireless communications. This work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, The Mathworks, and other organizations.
Among his research interests is developing innovative technologies and techniques that can be used to expand the use of the limited radio spectrum for the increasing number of wireless users and applications. He has conducted research on the current utilization of the radio spectrum and on technologies, including cognitive radio and software-defined radio, which may permit the opportunistic use of underused spectrum.
Co-editor of the 2009 book "Cognitive Radio Communications and Networks: Principles and Practice," Wyglinski was also co-author of a study that received the Gold Award for the best paper on communications presented at the 2011 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers, and Signal Processing.
Wyglinski earned a BS and a PhD in electrical engineering at McGill University in Montreal and an MS in electrical engineering at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu, the IEEE Communications Society, the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and VTS.

How To Buy A Cap
A cap is a statement you make to the world, about your team affiliation, about your hobbies, or about your style. There are hundreds of variations of caps on the market from which to choose.
Types of caps
Cap styles run the gamut from the traditional baseball cap to the Gilligan cap. Choosing the proper one for you depends on your style.
Fitted
- Fitted caps are the traditional caps like the Major League Baseball players wear
- They are usually made of 100% wool with a structured front and a higher profile
- Fitted caps are sized to your head
Adjustable
- Adjustable caps are the most popular caps today because they can be adjusted to fit any size head
- They are made with many different materials including wool, cotton, and mesh
- They also have many different types of closure systems including plastic snaps, leather straps with a buckle, and velcro
Unstructured
- Unstructured caps look like a traditional baseball cap, but with a soft front that sits lower on the head for a more casual look
- They are usually available as adjustable caps
Visors
- Visors are a cap minus the top, they look like a headband with a brim
- They are usually adjustable, with a rigid brim to shade your eyes
- They are also good for wearing in hot weather because the top of your head is open, but be careful of the sun's rays
Bucket
- Some people call this a Gilligan cap because it resembles the old cap worn by the title character on Gilligan's Island
- Bucket caps come in a variety of fabrics and general sizes which include small, medium, large, and extra large

- Types of closures include plastic, Velcro, fabric snaps and leather bands
Embroidery

Self Improvement & Memory Training: On The Finish Line
Knowing what to do in time of adversity is the first step towards victory in life's battles. The Bible informs us that it's not the beginning of something that really matters but how it ends. In essence, the conclusion should be drawn . Many people start well yet can't finish well. Such experience and examples are around us every day. Life is a journey and every Christian and non-Christian takes this journey. The final earthly destination is death (the grave).
The road you travel on, how you travel, and with whom you travel will determine your position . The critical elements of the journey of faith are (A) Knowledge - of the will of God and the devices of the devil against you (B) Understanding - having proper perspective of the challenges that confront you each day (C) Patience - the grace to carry on in the face of success or failures and (D) Steadfastness - remaining calm and settled with your focus set .
The scripture reminds us that there's a great cloud of witnesses around us each passing day. I see this great cloud as humans, angels, circumstances and demons. All these have impact on our finish line. Over the years many have started out well, living for the Lord but unfortunately they have fallen away never to come back. We must know that how we begin can impact the end but in reality, it never justifies the end. See Hebrews 12:1-3.
To finish well, we must stay the course and travel light with no undue burdens. Here are three keys that can make you a champion .
1) You must be totally focused on running the race.
You can't achieve success unless you can see it from where you are. It's written, "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2, KJV). Jesus knows our end from our beginning. Therefore, it's of a necessity that our hope and trust be placed in him.
We've so much going on in our future if we can see the finish line and forget about yesterdays' "could nots, would nots, can nots and do nots." Focus on finishing well, on your healing, on your deliverance, and on your success with God's help. The spirit of winning is ignited when we can see ourselves .
2) Let Jesus Christ be your example.
As much as we can, be a blessing and benefit to one another, it's absolutely necessary that our trust be on the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you" (John 15:7, KJV). Philippians 4:13 tells us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
The things behind us have taken their course and effect already. How we see and handle them now is consequential . You can draw strength and hope in Christ or you can wallow in your defeat, set-backs, and unfortunate past. The choice is yours.
3) Guard your thoughts.
If you ever thought of winning, you must begin to think and act like a winner. When you walk in victory in your thought life, you'll be victorious in your daily life. As I said in my book, "My Mind, Lord," your thoughts go before your actions. The seeds of thoughts you sow will produce its kind.
We're born again for victory not defeat. Our various trials have many solutions if we're living for Christ. "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all"(Psalms 34:19).
Set your eyes and he that has gone before you will grant you the grace and the desires of your heart. For more uplifting articles follow the link below.

With innovative products hitting the online market place, Americans coast to coast are working on new ideas for product creation. As the economic recession has put an end to the dreams of many start ups and small business owners, the online version is increasingly becoming a popular place for trying out their luck once again.
Depending upon the idea you have and want to make it tick, you can choose the various ways for creating a product that is unique and addresses the most pressing concerns of people. It could be related to finances, health, foreclosures, the economy and the ways to cut costs. It could also be on simple problems that home owners face during their day to day living and also educative topics they are interested in learning.
Primarily, for expressing yourself and selling your new product on the internet, the audio visual medium is catchy and more appealing than others. People like to see first and then read. It is said that seeing is more upfront and if you are more open to public speaking and presenting, then this is the best option for you.
Product creation requires some research at your end and identification of a topic you are comfortable with. Once you have fixed up the product, think about the target audience. Your target audience may have some perceptions about similar products that also could have some shortcomings. If you can address the shortcomings and iron out some of the flaws, then you can come out with a repackaged stuff that could be a surefire winner.
For production creation using the audio visual medium, you can begin by building your own recording studio. The investment would pay off in the long run of you have a real winning idea and a topic that can stand the test of time and development of similar products later on. Instead of always renting a studio every time you create your own product, you can build one yourself.
When it is free during the intervening period between product creations, you can also make money by renting it out. There are many DIY online guides that can take you through the steps for creating your own studio. Your audio products can sell well if the topics have a wide appeal and you can literally take your audience along the path to the goals.
There are many solutions that are frantically sought after and the recession has also thrown up immense potential for product creation. Plan the content of the audio much before and rehearse it with your friends, relatives and co-workers or whoever you can confide in to get an impartial feedback. Listen over and over again to spot any gray areas that need to be corrected or if any fine tuning that is required. Check the speed and the volume as well as the pronunciation and add loads of humor for succeeding in product creation.

China M&A: Canada Zinc Metals - Bob Moriarty: How to Unscramble an EGG CZX.v, LUN.to
? ?Canada Zinc Metals has seen some activity last couple of days - Bob Moriarty thinks that it is cheap now. We can not argue here - all juniors have been beaten into the dust lately, but not all of them will rise again. You need solid projects and team, which is able to develop them. Tongling Nonferrous from China with 36% in Canada Zinc Metals and Lundin Mining are good company to navigate the recent market.
For those of our readers who don?t understand the mess with the Euro and the pending exit from the Euro of Greece, here?s what you need to know.
On May 6th, this month, France and Greece held national elections. They are, after all, both democracies and in the true spirit of mob voting, they voted against cutting spending and voted for more benefits. Democracy is at its heart the mob voting to steal from those who have, to give to themselves.
Basically the French and Greeks voted to continue to spend like drunken sailors and to allow Germany to bail them out once more. I may do a disservice to drunken sailors because even drunken sailors stop spending when they run out of money.
Germany, of course, was thrilled. Good luck with that, guys.
Creating the EU and the Euro was much like scrambling an egg. We are all familiar with the concept. You get an egg, a wire whisk and a bowl. Crack the egg into the bowl; a few swift whips of the whisk and you have your scrambled egg.
When Greece soon exits the Euro, all they have to do is reverse the process. Unscrambling the egg isn?t quite as difficult as putting it back into the eggshell.
I was in Vietnam for two years from July of 1968 until March of 1970. If you are interested, I can tell you all about stupid wars of aggression against people who did nothing to the United States.
I am not a believer in the unlimited power of big government. For we thought we had all the power in Vietnam but we really didn?t. I?ve seen waves of 27?B-52 bombers?each carrying 117 500-pound bombs carpet-bombing the jungle. They killed a lot of trees but we lost the war.Our enemy was a soldier defending his country with an AK-47 in one hand and a ball of rice in the other. They won, we lost. Don?t even try telling me about the power of government, it?s imaginary.
Greece is going to leave the Euro. Screw all the politicians who pretend they have something to do or say about it. They are lying through their teeth. Greece is going to leave the Euro because every Greek with the sense God gave a goose is down at their bank taking every Euro they have in their account and shoving it into a paper bag they can take home and shove under the mattress. Because they know that when the idiot politicians who think they have all the power in Greece realize the banks are imploding and the Germans are sick of bailing them out, the crooks running the country will make taking your own money out of the bank illegal.
We aren?t any better here. Greece has a 54% unemployment rate in the under 29-year-old population, Spain has a 52% unemployment rate. Those are the sort of folks who start revolutions. I wouldn?t shed a tear if they hang all the lying politicians from the short end of a long rope. They are having runs on banks in Europe. It will travel to our shores. The Greek people voted to destroy the banks before the banks could destroy them.
The solution to the problems of Greece and Spain and Portugal and Ireland and France and England and the US is simple. Don?t spend what you don?t have. Default on what you can?t possibly?pay back. Reduce taxes and forget about government being the solution. It?s not the solution. It?s the problem. That?s too simple for the assholes running governments. They want to destroy every cent from everyone who actually works for a living to keep their clutches on power.
Our government is a cesspool run by liars and crooks. Our foreign policy is made in Israel and every congress critter has been bought and paid for by the big money interests. You can no more fix our government than you can unscramble an egg. We deserve exactly what we have coming; we let these bastards steal our country.
All you can do is protect you and your family and whatever assets the government has yet to steal. I?ve talked many times about using gold and silver as an insurance policy. If you don?t own any by now, you don?t get it and you will soon understand why you should have paid more attention. But beyond gold and silver as an insurance policy, where do you put your investment capital?
I think that resources are the only alternative. The last week has shown investors just how much Wall Street looks out for your interests. The Facebook IPO was typical lying and stealing from Wall Street. You may safely believe they made money. They always make money. Your money.
I meant to write this piece weeks ago and I was dilatory. Canada Zinc (CZX-V) was the subject of a piece?I wrote in February. They were cheap then, they are cheaper now. In Mid-March they released a new 43-101 update showing an incredible 12.7 million tonnes of 8.38% zinc, 1.68% lead and 13.7 grams per tonne silver in the indicated category. That?s an in the ground metal value of over $2.5 billion dollars. All of this indicated category has been upgraded since their last 43-101 and they show an additional 16.3 million tonnes of 7.38% zinc, 1.34% lead and 11.6 g/t silver in the inferred category. That?s worth over $2.8 billion in the ground.
Your?alternatives are Euros, Greek bonds or US TBills. That?s like no choice at all. Our world is changing far faster than most people imagine. There isn?t very much time left before the bank runs start in the US. Invest in real assets while you still can.
Canada Zinc is an advertiser and we are biased. As always, you are solely responsible for your own investment decisions. We share neither in your profits nor your losses.

Israeli MK: I didn't mean to shame Holocaust by calling migrants 'cancer'
Likud MK Miri Regev, who came under fire last week after calling African migrants "a cancer" in Israeli society, apologized for the first time for her comments on Sunday, opting, however, to leave the migrants out of her apology.
Regev's controversial comments came during a violent rally staged by residents of Tel Aviv's south ? where many African migrants live ? to protest rising crime rates in the area. In the rally, the Likud MK said "the Sudanese are a cancer in our body."
She was later criticized for inflaming the protesters, with angry demonstrators later going on to attack African passers-by and journalists, breaking into and looting shops associated with the African migrant community and shattering car windshields.
At the time, Regev condemned "any violence from any side, but I understand the rage and hurt of the residents, of the families that live there. They tell us: 'Help us. We are being humiliated, look how we live, we are afraid to leave the house.'"
However, speaking to Israeli media outlets over the weekend and on Sunday, Regev chose to apologize for calling the Sudanese a cancer, opting however, to direct her apology to Holocaust survivors and cancer patients.
"When I compared the migrant worker phenomenon to cancer I was referring to the way the phenomenon had spread, and not anything else. If anyone took it otherwise and was consequently offended, I apologize and I surely did not intend to hurt either Holocaust survivors or cancer patients," she said.
Regev told Maariv that she was very "attuned to the issue of the Holocaust. The memory of the Holocaust is seared deeply into my heart back from my time in high school when I prepared a paper on the subject."
"Up until a year ago I did not set foot in Germany, and made it a point not to purchase German-made products," the Likud MK and former army spokesperson said, adding: "When I was with an IDF delegation in Auschwitz I didn't stop crying, and so if someone attributed a wrong interpretation of my comments or was offended by them, I apologize."
Regev added that "she didn't talk about people as being cancer but of an infiltration phenomenon that was spreading."
The Likud MK also added that she was sensitive to the feelings of cancer patients, adding that she was herself involved with the care given to a boy with cancer, telling the website of Israeli daily Maariv that she understands the emotions involved with ta mention of the disease.
"When [former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin] said the settlers were a cancer, no one made any fuss. When [Peace Now head] Yariv Oppenheimer speaks of the settlements as caner, everyone is silent. When I talk about the phenomenon, I get attacked just became I'm a leader from the right-wing," Regev added.
Last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised that his government would address the issue of African migrants in Israel, one day after a protest against them by residents of south Tel Aviv turned violent.
"The infiltrator problem must be solved, and we will solve it," Netanyahu said on Thursday afternoon, speaking at an event in Tel Aviv.
He also refered to the construction of a fence on the Egypt-Israel border, saying, "We will complete construction of the fence within two months, and soon we will begin sending infiltrators back to their countries of origin."
The prime minister also condemned the actions of demonstrators and Knesset members on Wednesday, when demonstrators attacked African migrants in South Tel Aviv.
"I want to make it clear that there is no place for the statements and actions that we witnessed yesterday. I say these things to the public figures and to the residents of south Tel Aviv, whose pain I understand," he said.

Cuttlefish Use Ancient Ink Formula
The melanin in modern-day cuttlefish ink is nearly chemically identical to the pigment found in ancient cephalopods' fossilized ink sacs. Sophie Bushwick reports.

Tens of millions of years ago, cephalopods were hiding from their enemies in clouds of ink. And it turns out that cuttlefish today produce ink that?s almost identical.
Researchers found fossils of two giant cephalopods that swam the seas more than 160 million years ago. Each one contained a preserved ink sac. Analysis of the sacs revealed that some melanin pigment?the stuff that makes the ink dark?had survived. Plus, the chemical makeup of the melanin was virtually the same as the pigment found in modern-day cuttlefish ink. The work is in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. [Keely Glass et al, Direct chemical evidence for eumelanin pigment from the Jurassic period]
It?s rare to find preserved soft tissue in the fossil record. In addition, biomolecules often break down, leaving none of the original organic compounds. Melanin, however, has a sturdy structure that resists this fate. And the methods these researchers used to isolate it from the fossils could help other paleontologists better identify preserved organic molecules and their functions.
The finding also demonstrates that when something works, evolution usually leaves it alone. Because if it ain?t broke, don?t fix it.

Patrick Fitzgerald, nemesis of Rod Blagojevich, steps down
US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald on Thursday ruled out two options for his next career move, saying he?s not wired to run for office and quipping, 'Can you see me as a defense attorney?'
By Mark Guarino,?Staff writer / May 24, 2012
EnlargePatrick Fitzgerald, the US attorney who became a household name after earning convictions for two sitting Illinois governors and other high-profile figures, announced Thursday that he is stepping down.

google_ads[0].line3 + '
Clocking 11 years on the job, Mr. Fitzgerald is the longest-serving US attorney in Chicago history. His aggressive pursuit of corruption routinely earned him comparisons to Eliot Ness, the famed Prohibition agent in the Al Capone era.
?He went after City Hall and really rooted out a lot of corrupt people who were major political players,? says Evan McKenzie, an attorney and associate professor of political science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. ?He was combating corruption, and anyone who knows this state knows corruption is an enormous problem.?
In a statement released Wednesday, US Attorney General Eric Holder described Fitzgerald ?as a prosecutor?s prosecutor? and said he served ?with the utmost integrity and a steadfast commitment to the cause of justice.?
Fitzgerald did not reveal why he was exiting office, nor did he offer clues as to the next steps in his professional life, besides saying he wants to remain in Chicago. Former US prosecutors often have four choices when they leave their positions, Professor McKenzie says: politicians, white-collar defense attorneys, civil litigators, and judges.
At a press conference Thursday morning, Fitzgerald ruled out at least two of the four.
?I?m not wired to campaign for anything or run for elective office, period,? he said. Later, when asked if he would go into private practice to defend the same type of people he once prosecuted, he quipped: ?Can you see me as a defense attorney??
Fitzgerald arrived in Chicago from New York City, where he made his name in successful prosecutions involving the 1998 terrorist bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. On Thursday he said of that time, ?Most people didn?t [know] who Al Qaeda was,? but those convictions started the process of dismantling the terrorist groups.
?Obviously, there?s still a dangerous threat out there, but it?s remarkable we avoided anything close to the scale of the 9/11 attack in the 10 years since,? he said.
Once in Chicago, Fitzgerald pursued the successful convictions of two successive Illinois governors: George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich. Mr. Ryan was charged with racketeering and fraud that went back to his days as secretary of State. Mr. Blagojevich was accused of trying to sell Barack Obama?s seat in the US Senate after he won the presidential election.
Each of the high-profile corruption trials was handled with particular tenacity. For example, Blagojevich was tried a second time after the first trial resulted in a hung jury.
When Fitzgerald had announced the charges against Blagojevich, he told reporters that Blagojevich?s actions were so egregious, they would make none other than Abraham Lincoln ?roll over his grave.? Those words were later used by Blagojevich?s defense team as evidence that Fitzgerald operated with a special vendetta against the governor.
On Thursday, Fitzgerald admitted regrets over the inflamed comments and said that they ?seemed like a good idea at the time.?
Besides the two governors, Fitzgerald won convictions for a long list of Chicago organized-crime leaders, city workers and contractors, local officials, and top aides to former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, with whom he had a chilly relationship.
Because of Fitzgerald?s success rate in Chicago, he was tapped in 2005 as special prosecutor in cases involving I. Lewis ?Scooter? Libby, former Vice President Dick Cheney?s adviser, who became the highest-ranking White House official since the Iran-contra case to receive a conviction.
